
Dr. Noelle R. B. Stiles studies interactions among the senses in patients with low vision, as well as partially restored vision in blind patients with retinal prostheses. Retinal prostheses stimulate retinal ganglion cells with visual information from a head-mounted camera, thereby generating artificial visual perception. Dr. Stiles is currently investigating the integration of artificial vision with audition by means of multisensory psychophysics, as well as brain reorganization in artificial vision patients by means of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Dr. Stiles is a postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Southern California. She earned her Ph.D. from the Computation and Neural Systems Program at the California Institute of Technology, studying postdictive auditory-visual illusions in the sighted (Audiovisual Rabbit), as well as crossmodal plasticity in the blind associated with the use of sensory substitution devices (vOICe and CARA). She received her Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Biophysics (with a Neuroscience minor) from the University of Southern California.
